I went to see a friend of my Grandparents today. Her name is Rilma Chambers and she turned 90 years old today. Her daughter Brenda and I grow up on the same block in Farmers Branch and went to Elementary School, Jr. High and High School together. It was called Jr. High back then not Middle School like its called now. Rilma was so cute. She had gotten her hair done for her Birthday and it was all in little curls. She had her makeup on and nails done. So Cute. Brenda had asked everyone to write a fond memory of her MOM on a card so she could read it later. Here is what I wrote.
Ms. Rilma
My fondest memory of you is the summer you gathered together all the little girls on the block and taught us all how to sew. The first day I was so scared to go but I did. I was 10 or 11. You were so sweet. You had cookies and milk for us. I remember saying that I really didn't like milk so you asked if I would like it if it had some chocolate in it to make it Chocolate Milk. I said, Yes. After that you always had Chocolate Milk for ME. I felt so special. You had prepared little sewing boxes for each of the girls with pieces of material, needles, thread, scissors and a seam reaper. I remember at the time I had never seen a seam reaper. I ended up using that tool the most. You taught us how to Hem, Sew on a button, Sew on a pocket and how to gather material. By the end of the summer we had all made an Apron. That was the most fun I ever had on a summer break with the exception of the summer I discovered "BOYS."
One other thing I wanted to say. Of all my Grandmothers friends you were always the closest to my heart. I will never forget how you loved my children from afar by always asking about them every time I saw you. David and Andrea will remember Life Saver Candy Books you always gave them for Christmas. You have been a blessing in my Life and I look forward to seeing you at your 100th Birthday Celebration. Love, Penny
